Dogs are animal NPCs that can be randomly encountered throughout Dead State. Some dogs are feral and will attack the player and the party in the field, but others are friendly and can be requited as allies for the Shelter if certain requirements are fulfilled.
Dogs can be taken into the field as a member of the party and take up a full party slot. Dogs are incapable of carrying items and weapons, but have superior senses and can more effectively detect threats and alert the party to them, making it possible to easily steer clear of dangerous random encounters and discover enemies. Dogs are also incapable of panicking in combat.
