Max Getz

Max Getz is obsessed with killing the undead and likely to frighten other survivors with his behavior.

Recruitment

Getz arrives at the Shelter on the morning of Day 6, covered in blood and on the brink of collapse. Even if you don't want to take him in, Davis will insist.

Events

  • On Day 9, Getz will finally wake up, and be determined to leave to go kill more undead. Davis will insist he stay and recover, and will push to be allowed to leave. If you're patient and ask him to stay, he'll pass out again, making it a moot point.
  • Many allies will have a reaction to Getz - either wanting him to leave or wanting to help.

*Spoilers*

  • If Getz has a high enough Mood, he'll tell you his backstory: he was a teacher at a school with his fiancee, but a mistake lead to her death and those of many others. He will admit his grief and pain, and you can counsel him to deal with it (leading to the removal of his "Unhinged" trait), or suggest he focus even more on killing the undead (gaining him the "Undead Nightmare" trait).
  • Inversely, if Getz is left to his own and his Mood plummets, he will leave the Shelter to continue his one-man war against the undead on his own. Davis will report to you in the morning that Getz took his trusty axe, vaulted the fence and went, never to return. This will result in a Morale loss for the day as if Getz (or any other ally) had died in the field.
  • If Getz is bit at any time, he will also leave on his own seeing his time is coming soon.
  • Getz will assist you no matter what during the Airport and Bus escape.

Getz is single-minded in his skill build at first, focusing on Melee and then Survival until they're maxed. After that, he'll gain smaller chunks in Leadership, Medical, and Mechanical. His stat gain is in Vigor, Strength, and Agility.

Traits

Initial

  • Slayer: "Getz's has turned all his rage against the undead into an additional 10% critical chance on hitting them."
  • Unhinged: "Getz's tendency to focus solely on how many undead he can destroy is unnerving to others, resulting in a daily Morale penalty of -5." (*Spoiler* - this can potentially be removed via dialogue)
  • Nothing Gold: "This character either has a personality that does not allow them feel joy for long or has suffered too much. As a result, their Mood cannot remain raised above Content."
  • Pumping Iron: "This ally enjoys having a Gym in the Shelter, and will gain a one-time Mood boost after it is completed."

Gained Via Dialogue

  • Undead Nightmare: "Getz's ruthlessness towards the undead has granted him an additional 15% damage against them."

Play Style

If you can keep him happy enough, Getz can quickly become a permanent addition to the combat team. His high melee and strength make him deadly in combat, but keep plenty of sleeping pills on hand and build the Gym ASAP. If Max has his hand on a hard hitting melee weapon like the Railroad Hammer, he will excel at slaying Zombies, as most of the time he will often oneshot zombies with it, no matter from what direction it is used from with often guaranteed chance that it will hit. Plus it is also very useful against certain more stubborn human survivors if he gets close.

Getz will NOT react to killing neutral survivors.

Note: Max + Unasume = Win.

Trivia

  • Age: 31
  • Subleader Supported: Regina

  • Illness: Red Mist/Killing Urges.
  • Getz's visual reference is Guts, the main character of the Berzerk manga.
  • Due to being largely referred to by his last name (as with Ken Nash), early versions would cause the "Pokémon bug" - doubling his last name and listing him on the Job Board as "Getz Getz."
