Oscar Guzman

Oscar Guzman and his wife were stranded at his parent's pharmacy when everything went to hell. He's very dedicated to her and has tried everything to keep her alive after she was bitten by one of the undead.

Recruitment

Oscar Guzman can be found in a pharmacy in "Downtown San Saba" North-East of Splendid at Route 190, together with his injured wife, Melina Guzman. If you have Renee with you, she can patch up Melina and you can bring both back to the Shelter. Alternatively, having high enough negotiation skill allows you to convince him to go to the shelter to get his wife treated.(3 is enough)

Events

  • On his first day in the Shelter, Oscar thanks you for your help, and tells you he'll do anything he can to assist.
  • Two weeks into his time at the Shelter (if Melina is alive), Oscar tells you about the storage place he was managing, and mentions that one creepy guy was storing something strange in there.
  • If the fence is ever getting low on health, Oscar will remind you and offer to help with it.
  • If Melina dies, Oscar will take a massive Mood penalty - and if you promised him she would be okay, he'll get an additional Mood penalty - and he'll ask for materials and time for a funeral. If you allow him the parts and the time, he'll gain a significant Mood boost. If you refuse him, he'll take a Mood penalty. If you have Negotiation of 6 or above, you can offer time instead of a coffin, which will gain a small Mood boost. If you have a Leadership of 7 or more, you can argue against having a memorial - Mark won't fight this, but will only gain a small Mood boost.
  • If Melina is dead and Getz is in the Shelter, Oscar will tell you to be easier on him - and will imply Getz has suffered a loss similar to his own.
  • Early in the second month, if Melina is dead, Oscar will tell you today is his and Melina's anniversary, and he's too upset to work. If you give him the day off, he'll be unavailable for 12 hours - if you deny him that, he'll take another Mood penalty. If you have Negotiation of 8 or more, you can keep him working and give him a small Mood boost - with Leadership of 6 or more, he'll agree to work but gain no penalties or boosts.
  • If Morale in the Shelter is low (but Melina is alive), Oscar will come to you and voice his support. If you dismiss him, he'll take a hit on his Mood, but if you respect his kindness, he'll gain a small boost to it.
  • If there's a shortage of antibiotics & Melina is alive, Oscar will beg you not to cut off her supply. If you try to let him down or dismiss him, he'll take a Mood penalty and storm off. If you have a Leadership skill of 5 or more, you can reassure him somewhat.

Oscar will spread his skills over a wide range, initially gaining points in Mechanical, Melee, Leadership, and Medical before slowly putting points into the remaining skills. His stat gain is in Vigor, Agility, and Strength.

Oscar is a good Jack-of-all-trades, and although he can serve as backup Melee combat, he's more useful building things back at the Shelter along with Melina.
